About
Hello, my name is Tommy and I’m a Microsoftaholic. I actually worked at Microsoft as a Software Test Engineer for almost 7 years. I quit in January of 2007 because of several reasons: I did not feel the business choices made in my group were forward looking enough which lead to repeated product failures that essentially deflated a small but highly profitable part of the MSN division. Also, I felt like it was time for me to head out and work at a startup to see what it was like.
So what am I doing here over at WordPress? Well, first, I’m giving it a try since I’ve heard a lot of great things about it. I mean, I’m a big fan of MovableType and everything, but thought I’d give wordpress a go. Second, I thought I’d pick a project that I’ve been curious about for a while: learning to use Linux. In all of the years I’ve been in technology (about 8 now), I’ve yet to extensively use any Unix based system. Oh sure, I had some experiences with straight up AIX in college, but that was eons and eons ago. It may have actually been in a galaxy far far away too
My new company Zing was recently acquired by Dell. As part of the deal, all of the Zingers got new Dell XPS m1330 laptops. At first I was going to hawk it on ebay to get myself a 15 or 17in. Macbook Pro, but after I started using and seeing how light and well designed it is, I decided to stick with it and use it as a way to dabble in Linux.
If you’d like to find out more about me, my wife and I have had a pretty quiet corner of the Internet to ourselves over at dodoskido.com for about 5 years now. It mainly consists of my rants intermixed with bits and pieces of our personal life. I also run the now, mostly quiet My TV Life blog that has tips and tricks for the MSNTV2 users out there (all 8 of you). Also, check out my wife’s artwork…it rocks.
Thanks for stopping by…hope to see you here often.
